What is CC Switch? Switch Claude Code, Codex, and AI coding configurations
CC Switch is a desktop tool for centrally managing provider profiles, models, and related configuration across Claude Code, Codex, and other supported AI coding tools. It is useful when you maintain several configurations and manual file edits have become error-prone. It does not decide which provider is trustworthy, private, cheaper, or appropriate for your work.
Decide whether you need it first
It fits when you manage more than one AI coding tool or provider profile, need to preserve distinct setups for distinct work contexts, and are willing to verify the active endpoint, account, and model after each switch.
If you use a single official provider and rarely change configuration, manual setup may be simpler. Managed devices or work involving customer code should receive security approval before any third-party endpoint is introduced.
A safe first switch in four steps
- Use an official source. Confirm the download through the CC Switch repository or its official site. Do not use clients that request payment, top-ups, or login credentials.
- Back up a working setup. Preserve the configuration and authentication state that currently works for Claude Code, Codex, and other tools before replacing anything.
- Switch one explicit profile. Confirm the profile's endpoint, account, model, pricing, and data policy. A switch can change the route a request takes; it is not merely a model-name edit.
- Restart and run a harmless test. Restart the affected tool, then use a request without customer code or private data to confirm the active model, billing, and tool behavior. Codex may need a restart before an updated model list is visible in
/model.
What CC Switch centralizes
It can centralize supported provider profiles, models, MCP servers, prompts, Skills, and configuration switching. Its value is not a larger model list; it is a more inspectable switching process for different work contexts.
Local routing and format conversion are advanced features. With takeover enabled, the profile shown in CC Switch may not be the original tool's current live configuration. After disabling takeover, verify that official sign-in and the original configuration have been restored as intended.
What it does not guarantee
CC Switch does not guarantee a third-party provider's model identity, price, retention, uptime, or service-term compatibility. The upstream also warns that a Codex OAuth reverse proxy can create account-restriction or terms risk. That route is not this page's default recommendation.

This candidate is based on the official CC Switch repository, its GitHub Releases, and upstream documentation. Its 2026-08-24 snapshot is Release v3.20.0, main commit 5ca9459, under the MIT License. It is not an Aaron end-to-end test or evidence of external adoption.
